A Clare Valley Nature & Lookouts Day
Wetlands, lakeside paths and vineyard panoramas for a greener day out.
There's more to the Clare Valley than vines. This day strings together its best free, outdoor spots, from restored wetlands to vineyard lookouts, with plenty of room for a picnic.
The plan
Start gently at Gleeson Wetlands in central Clare, where boardwalks loop past frog ponds and reed beds. Walk or drive a few minutes to Inchiquin Lake for a lakeside stroll and an early picnic under the gums. Earn a view with the short climb up Billy Goat Hill Lookout, then head south for the vineyard panorama at Watervale Lookout. If there's time and energy left, the Spring Farm or Sevenhill Creek corridors offer a final leg-stretch among the vines before the day winds down.
