The southern gateway
Auburn marks the southern end of the Clare Valley and the start of the Riesling Trail. Its main street is a streetscape of beautifully preserved colonial stone, anchored by the much-loved Mostly Books and the historic Rising Sun Hotel. Auburn was the birthplace of beloved Australian poet C.J. Dennis, and a heritage walk takes in the cottages, churches and the old watering stop that gave the town its early life on the Adelaide–Burra road.
