A Clare Valley Family Day

Mazes, mines, market treats and a gentle stretch of the Riesling Trail.

1 day Families with kids 6 stops

You don't have to leave the kids at home to enjoy the Clare Valley. Between hedge mazes, copper-mine adventures and easy trail rides, there's plenty here to fill a family day — with a market treat or two to keep everyone happy.

The plan

Kick off at the Clare Valley Farmers' Market (if it's on) for a hot breakfast and a basket of snacks. Then it's straight to the main event for younger explorers: the Mintaro Maze, a classic hedge maze where kids can race ahead and get happily lost.

After lunch, hire bikes and ride a flat, easy section of the Riesling Trail — the old railway line is traffic-free and gentle enough for confident young riders. Finish at Burra, where the open cut of the Monster Mine and the miners' dugouts turn history into a real-life adventure story.

Before the drive home, climb Neagles Rock Lookout for a quick scramble and a big view over the valley — a fittingly active end to a family day out.
