Burra Heritage Streetscape

Burra's wonderfully intact main streets of stone shops and cottages.

Walking Burra's main streets is like stepping into a 19th-century mining town that never lost its character. Rows of stone shopfronts, hotels and cottages survive in remarkable condition, earning the town its place as a State Heritage Area.

Many buildings now house cafes, galleries and antique shops, so the strolling comes with plenty of reasons to pause. The streetscape is the connective tissue between Burra's famous mining and gaol sites.

A slow wander, ideally with the Heritage Passport in hand, is the best way to appreciate just how complete the town is.
