Market Square Museum
A perfectly preserved 1880s general store and home in Burra, frozen in time and crammed with the goods of everyday colonial life.
Step inside the Market Square Museum and you step into 1880s Burra. This restored general store, post office and dwelling has been left almost exactly as it was, its shelves stocked with the tins, bolts of cloth, hardware and household goods that once supplied a thriving copper town.
The living quarters behind the shop are equally evocative, furnished as a colonial family would have kept them. It's a small museum but a vivid one - the kind of place that makes the past feel close enough to touch.
It forms one of the stops on the Burra Heritage Passport trail and pairs naturally with the gaol, the mine and a walk around historic Market Square.
