Mintaro Wines
A long-established small winery in the slate village of Mintaro, known for richly structured, age-worthy Riesling and Shiraz.
Mintaro Wines has been quietly making serious wine in the historic slate village since the 1980s. The cool eastern side of the valley gives its Riesling a firm, slatey backbone and its Shiraz a dark, structured intensity that rewards patience in the cellar.
The cellar door is a low-key affair, in keeping with Mintaro's heritage-village feel, and tastings are unrushed. The Rieslings in particular have a strong reputation among collectors for ageing gracefully over a decade or more.
Combine a tasting here with a wander through Mintaro's slate-built streetscape and a visit to nearby Martindale Hall for a perfect eastern-valley day.
