Mitchell Wines
A family winery in the Skillogalee Valley since 1975.
Founded by Andrew and Jane Mitchell in 1975, this family winery in the western hills pours classic Clare riesling and shiraz from a cellar door in an 1890s stone building.
Mitchell is one of the names that built modern Clare. Andrew and Jane Mitchell established the winery on the family property in 1975, in the quiet Skillogalee Valley folded into the western hills, and it remains family-run today.
The cellar door occupies an 1890s stone building, with a garden for fine days and a fire for winter ones, and tastings run through the estate's benchmark Watervale riesling alongside shiraz, grenache and semillon. It is a relaxed, dog-friendly stop where a cheese board can stretch a visit pleasantly.
The Skillogalee Valley is one of the prettiest pockets of the region — narrow roads, old vineyards and bush ridgelines — and Mitchell pairs naturally with neighbouring Skillogalee Wines and the drive through Penwortham on the way back to the main road.
