Gaelic Cemetery Wines
A celebrated single-vineyard Shiraz and Riesling project grown beside a historic Scottish pioneers cemetery north of Clare.
The Gaelic Cemetery vineyard sits on a north-of-Clare hillside beside the resting place of the district's Scottish Highland pioneers — hence the evocative name. The site's red loam over slate produces some of the most distinctive Shiraz in the valley.
A collaboration involving respected local winemakers, the label has earned a strong critical following for its dense, structured Shiraz and tightly wound Riesling. These are wines made to reward cellaring, with the savoury, mineral edge the site is known for.
While primarily a vineyard label, the wines turn up at tastings and good local bottle shops, and the name alone draws curious visitors to one of Clare's more atmospheric corners.
